My name is Jennifer Migan, I am a bilingual public speaking and leadership expert and the host of The Speech House Podcast. One of the main goals of The Speech House Podcast is to help people improve their public speaking skills and as a result become better communicators and leaders. and I believe that great communicators stand out in moments of crises.
In this first episode, with my guest Dr. Timothy Coombs we are going to explore the world of crisis communication. Here are some of the main topics that will be discussed in the episode:
-The different types of crises;
-The first thing that a company should do while facing a crisis;
-Why it is essential to be transparent to avoid mistrust from the public;
-How to respond to a crisis in the social media and "cancel culture" age.
Dr. Coombs is an international expert and renowned scholar in the field of crisis communication and he is at the origin of the Situational Crisis Communication Theory that is used as a pillar framework in communication crisis research.
He is the author of the award-winning book “Ongoing Crisis Communication, Planning, Managing and Responding” and many others. He has taught in many prestigious universities such as Texas A&M and he is currently the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Contingencies and Crisis Management and works for the Centre for Crisis & Risk Communications.
