Maison Bleue, in Bury St Edmunds, is one of Britain’s top French fine dining restaurants. It’s skillfully and lovingly run by husband and wife team – Pascal and Karine Canevet.

In this podcast episode we talk to Karine, who has just won the Michelin Guide Award for Sommelier of the Year 2021. Karine tells us how Pascal and she first met, fell in love, and chased the dream. Now, as owners of Maison Bleue, Karin reflects on the journey that brought them both such extraordinary success.

Karine talks about venturing to the UK from Brittany, ditching her studies, and learning her trade on her feet in restaurants, quite literally! Karine and Pascal initially managed the Maison Bleue, eventually became partners with the previous owner, and then bought out the old partners to fully own the restaurant themselves.

Karine talks about the magic formula of Maison Bleue – what makes it so special, how she creates such a welcoming, relaxed yet chic and glamorous atmosphere, and how Pascal designs and cooks an exquisite menu. Karine’s staff all work closely together, they have a strong bond and a desire to give each and every customer the most wonderful and memorable experience when they visit Maison Bleue.

Maison Bleue is a celebration of French modern food with all the flair you’d expect from an awarding winning chef and his team. Karine talks us through their wine menu, which is unique in itself, as well as their infamous cheese trolley; 30 French cheeses on offer – it’s a one of a kind! Karine and Pascal source most of their food locally, and Karine talks about the local farmers and producers who she works with.

The Restaurant will be reopening on Tuesday 18 May and they are already taking bookings – so our advice is to book now to avoid disappointment!

Thank Karine for such a candid insight into one of our most special restaurants in Suffolk.
