In this installment of The Tonepot Podcast we sit down with the punk rock band, MOONRAKER from Los Angeles, California. These guys are legitimately one of my favorite bands right now & it was a true pleasure to sit down and talk tone!
EPISODE OVERVEIW:
Love Buzzballs? Hate pedalboards? This episode is for you!
Wrapping up our season, we got MOONRAKER, from Los Angeles, California. These guys always make a super fun time, and it was great shooting the shit on gear.
We can gloss over the coffee for Buzz Balls today! Right into the love of big amps moving air & a blatant disdain for pedalboards in punk rock. Moonraker started way back in 2011, solidifying the current style in 2014.
The dudes got into music super young. Matt's father played guitar, and he had an older brother showing him the classics (Iron Maiden, Thin Lizzy, etc.). Nick was first intrigued by music with bands like Queen and the soundtrack for 'The Big Chill', of course. Seeing the school band early on, Nick picked the up saxophone and later percussion. David's mother was a choir directed, keeping music flowing in the house getting him into drums at 9 years old. heavily influenced by Animal from the Muppets and the film 'That Thing You Do!' he found Dookie and never looked back.
Digging into first instruments that lit the fire, Matt got an early Japanese Squier Stratocaster, Nick started out with a K-Mart acoustic before getting a Johnson bass at a yard sale, & David with a sunlight kit.
We got into the live rig gear, tracking with Chris Collier here in Las Vegas and more fun stuff like getting robbed in Mexico! Check out the full episode for all the treats!
