My favorite African American is Fredrick Douglas. A former slave who became the greatest spokesman for abolition, he gave a speech on the meaning of July 4th for slaves. We have a painful history but we are free to celebrate the birthday of this great nation. Calvin Coolidge was the only president born on the 4th for fun thought.
