In John chapter 5 we see Jesus heal a man who had been paralyzed for 38 years. He asks the man, “Do you want to get well?” Jesus isn’t asking him truly if he wants to get better, but instead is speaking to the reality that sometimes it’s easier to resign ourselves to live with our issues than to heal from them. It may be easier to find comfort in what is familiar –from mental & physical conditions to our spiritual beliefs & applications– than it is to accept Jesus' consistent challenge of getting better. If we hold so tightly to the same old things we may miss the new things Jesus is doing.
