Myrtha Zierock of Agricola Foradori farms in the Italian Dolomites of northeast Italy. She is the co-owner of her families bio-dynamic wine estate where, after spending many years learning and farming abroad in the US and Canada, she moved back to her family farm and joined her two brothers and mother to apply what she had learned. She manages two different farm locations. One is at the wine estate where crops are grown under the canopy of the high-trellised vineyards and a new site further south with more sun exposure where most of the Winter vegetables are grown. Even with the mild Italian winters, the biggest challenge is transplant timing due to the sunlight dropping behind the mountains in the afternoon, interfering with crop growth and development. She grows a ton of raddichio and leafy brassicas and root vegetables. Half of her sales are through restaurants and the other half direct to consumer. Mytha's goal is to bring year-round vegetables to the same level of appreciation as the wine her family produces.
