The Woman Podcast is excited to launch a new teaching series through the Gospel of Luke. Our friends, Rebecca Shatswell and Heather Hoyt will be leading us through scripture and helping us better understand how to read God's word on our own.

This week's teaching covers chapter nine of the Gospel of Luke. To dig deeper into this study, you can use these discussion questions:

  1. In chapter 10 when the groups go into the towns, Jesus gives specific instructions if the people do not welcome them (10:10-12). There will always be people we encounter who will not welcome the truth of Jesus or His Gospel message. What is the hardest part about sharing truth in the world today? How does Jesus encourage you?
  2. Review the story of The Good Samaritan. In your everyday life, are there people who you have a hard time showing mercy to? If so, why? What can you take away from the mercy that the Good Samaritan showed?
  3. What does Jesus tell Martha at the end of chapter 10 verse 41? When you self reflect, is there something in your life you’ve made greater than it needs to be? Discuss.
  4. Jesus reminds us how to pray in chapter 11. What line of the prayer resonates with you the most & why? Practice saying this prayer together as you close discussion.

On your own:

“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

-Luke 11:9-10 NIV

During prayer & fasting week, Heather reminded us that Jesus is talking about persistence in verse 9. We should be persistent in our asking and pleas to the Lord. It doesn’t mean we will have our requests answered instantly, but that instead God wants His children to ask and seek Him. If you’ve lost hope in a prayer or in a difficult situation recently, approach the Lord again with confidence, (Hebrews 4:16) knowing that He loves when you come to Him.

Bonus challenge this week: Every day this week, start and end each day by reciting the Lord’s prayer out loud.
