Marc Lee (born 1969) is a Swiss artist. He uses contemporary art as a vehicle to continuously redefine how we see ourselves and the world around us.

He is experimenting with information and communication technologies and within his contemporary art practice, he reflects critically creative, cultural, social, ecological and political aspects. In this context he is creating network-oriented interactive art projects: interactive installations, media art, internet art, performance art, video art, augmented reality (AR) art, virtual reality (VR) art and mobile art apps.

His works are exhibited in major Museums and new media art exhibitions including: ZKM Karlsruhe, New Museum New York, Transmediale Berlin, Ars Electronica Linz, HMKV Dortmund, HEK Basel, Fotomuseum Winterthur, Read_Me Festival Moscow, CeC Dehli, MoMA Shanghai, ICC Tokyo, Nam June Paik Art Center, Media Art Biennale and MMCA Seoul.

In this episode we dive into Marc's new project in 2023 - 'Control & Optimize Nature' (https://marclee.io/en/caon/) - a look into a speculative world, 30 years into the future where in the quest to ensure natural systems can deliver for the demands of the time, man now plays 'god' through Ai.

Imagining a speculative future where technological solutionism has been taken to an extreme, CAON – control and optimize nature explores the potential of advanced technologies in the management of future ecosystems. In a habitat where animal, fungi, and plant species have been modified by 3D printing, CRISPR, and synthetic biology, the viewer observes an AI preventing the delicate ecosystem from collapsing.

Marc showcased this work at the Bangalore International Centre and will continue to do so in other parts of the world.
