I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 10th of August, 2024, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We start in the Gospel of Mathew 10:8:

Freely you have received, freely give.”

That’s good news. It is for free! You can’t buy it, it’s not for sale. You can’t earn it, you just have to receive it. What are we talking about? We’re talking about salvation, when Jesus says, ”Come unto me.” It’s for free. Jesus paid for everything. He paid for it when He died for our sins on the Cross at Calvary.

Do you remember Peter, the big fisherman? He was the leader of the pack, do you remember? He said to the Lord, ”You’re not going to wash my feet,” in fact you can see that in John 13:8: “You shall never wash my feet!” The Lord said,“If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.” Remember? Then Peter said, ”Then Lord, wash all over my body.”

A thing called pride is what keeps many of us back from opening our hearts completely to the Lord. You see a lot of us were born and bred in the old school. If you can’t pay for it then you don’t take it. Now, that’s not a bad principle because there are too many greedy people in this world, but there comes a time when you’ve just got to say thank you - that’s all you have to say. It’s a hard lesson I’ve had to learn, but if you don’t do that then the Lord says, ”Then I can’t do anything for you.” He told the disciples, ”Freely you received now go and freely give.”

I remember a story once, a gentleman that they invited to one of our meetings said, ”I’m not going to go. I know those evangelists. It’s just a money making racket,” and the people said,” No but they don’t charge anything. You don’t have to buy a ticket, they don’t even take a collection.” Then he said, ”Well! In that case I’m going to come and see.” He did come and he gave his life to Christ. You and I have received salvation freely, we can’t pay for it, we can’t earn it. All we have to say is, ”Lord, thank you very much,” and go out and tell other people too. The Gospel of Christ is given freely and let them accept it and appreciate it and enjoy it.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day as you go out and give the Gospel freely to a dying world,
Goodbye
