Hezekiah Watkins was a 13-year-old student at Rowan Junior High School in Jackson, Mississippi when he was arrested on July 7, 1961 for his participation in a sit-in at the Greyhound Bus Terminal located on Lamar Street in Jackson, Mississippi. Actually, the young Hezekiah was mistaken as one of the Freedom Riders and was transported to Parchman Penitentiary where he was detained for a few days before being ordered released by then Governor Ross Barnett.
