Today on Transmusic Airwaves, we jump into the wayback machine and begin a semi-regular feature focused on the Fresh Air Archives. The Archives are a project begun in 1998 to preserve and document a Progressive music program broadcast on WKSU-FM between 1971 and 1981. Paul used to talk about the program often as it was his first introduction to radio, and many of us here at Transmusic Airwaves had the same.

The Archives began as a simple preservation project for a few treasured off-air tapes but has since grown to hundreds of hours, all derived from tapes provided by listeners to the program. I was just contacted in early April by a listener, Brad (we have never met) who offered up his few recordings of the program broken into three segments. Of these three recordings, one could be dated to the April 12, 1980 first hour of Fresh Air, hosted by Carl Palmer (current supporting host here). The other two are just fragment recordings of the show, saved apparently because of the inter-mixing of multiple records played simultaneously live on the air.
