Not only did she hold that impressive title, but she was also only the second woman to serve in that department. While Gail broke many barriers, she struggled constantly against racism and harassment, until she was forced to retire in 2004. The next few years of her life seemed to reflect her hardships, with some family feuds and some unfortunate financial decisions.
