In a riveting session of the Karen Read trial, testimonies from Colin Albert and Matthew McCabe provided new insights into the events surrounding John O'Keefe's death. The day’s proceedings began with intense questioning and ended with a dramatic recount of the morning of January 29, 2022.
Relationship with the Proctor Family
At 9:20 a.m., Colin Albert was called back to the stand. Alan Jackson (AJ) questioned Albert about his preparations for testimony. Albert stated he only discussed the case with his lawyer and not with his parents. Jackson continued probing into Albert’s relationship with the Proctor family, revealing close ties, including being a ring bearer at Courtney Proctor’s wedding. Albert confirmed his familiarity with Trooper Michael Proctor and their family's connections.
Text Message Scrutiny
By 9:45 a.m., the discussion shifted to text messages between Albert and Alli McCabe, highlighting their switch to Snapchat to make messages disappear. AJ questioned why Albert and McCabe would switch platforms to communicate. Albert remained unsure about the reason for this change.
AJ and Albert discussed the missing texts on Snapchat. AJ highlighted the disappearance of their communications in the hours, days, and weeks following John O'Keefe's death. AJ also showed a picture to the jury, taken on February 26, 2022, pointing out the injury to Albert’s right knuckles. Albert explained he fell on ice at a party during his senior year, using his right hand to catch himself. AJ asked if Albert had ever been in a fight before, and Albert replied only with his brothers.
