In this thrilling episode of our podcast, we delve into the notorious figure of Joseph James DeAngelo Jr., infamously known as the Golden State Killer. Born on November 8, 1945, in Bath, New York, DeAngelo's early years were tainted by familial abuse and grievous personal witnessing of sexual crime. His macabre journey into committing burglaries, perpetrating animal cruelty, and eventually graduating into more atrocious crimes sets an eerie and gripping narrative.

After a stint in Service during the Vietnam War, DeAngelo's foray into law enforcement and academic dominance in criminal justice paints a stark contrast with his twisted psyche and escalating crime ventures. His failed relationships, marked with manipulation and violence, only added fuel to his impending crime spree.

From 1974 to 1986, DeAngelo prowled primarily in California, adapting several monikers including the Visalia Ransacker, the East Area Rapist, and ultimately coined as the Golden State Killer by investigators. His crimes manifested as burglaries, sexual assaults, and gruesome murders, escalating over a decade and leaving a chilling legacy in American crime history.

Thanks to meticulous detective work and modern genealogy technology, DeAngelo was finally arrested in 2018 and ultimately pleaded guilty to 13 counts of murder and special circumstances, along with 13 counts of kidnapping in 2020. He was subsequently sentenced to multiple consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole.
