This week on #TubtaNabadda, we discuss the growing role of female officers in the Somali Police Force (SPF). We speak with a police lieutenant in the Federal Member State of Hirshabelle, Kaaho Abdulle, on her decision to join the police force, the challenges in this profession, and the ways she deals with them. She’s also an advocate for more Somali women to join the SPF and will tell us about why this is important. Our second guest is Lieutenant Colonel Nina Sudsawart, a UN Police Adviser with UNSOM in Belet Weyne, the largest city in Hirshabelle. She tells us about support to Somali police officers, especially women, and what the UN does to help empower and build the capacity of women in police departments. The programme is presented in Somali by Faiza Abdi and Mohamed Salad.
