Challenge at your own risk: Can you disagree in a meeting?

Ever wonder how you can disagree in a group meeting? Should you even disagree? Depending on the generation you are in, the company you work for, or the team you are a part of, your company may value open communication and disagreement. But is that always the case? And even if your team leader says, “Let’s hear what you have to say.” Do they really want to hear it?

  • Purpose of the meeting
  • Is the meeting even for disagreeing and discussion or is the meeting for general announcements
  • Recognize your audience if you are planning to disagree
  • Disagree from a place of “We” rather than “I” and it’s all about me!
  • What about disagreeing with the boss?
