In order to have the proper approach when speaking up in a meeting, you need to come from a place of confidence. But, is confidence all about faking it until you make it or are there some practical tips that will give you true confidence?

First and foremost, you belong. Don’t let imposter syndrome get the best of you.- As we discussed last week, you are paid or have been selected to be in the room and people know you are professionally needed. Listen for more about these practical tips on boosting your confidence:

  • Think something positive about what you accomplish and can contribute rather than focus on your shortcomings
  • Focus on positive stereotypes of who you are- studies show that asking about race and sex- you do poorly on tests
  • Be prepared - review and think about meeting agenda and topics
  • Practice, practice, practice what you want to contribute at the meeting
