The chemical, maritime, and manufacturing industries have a long way to go if they want to mitigate their negative impact on the environment, from pollution to tremendous levels of greenhouse gas emissions.

Bia Energy, LLC, hopes to steer the energy industry towards net-zero emissions by building a 74-acre, $1.2 billion low-carbon methanol production and processing facility at the port of Caddo-Bossier that will practice clean hydrogen production and permanent carbon sequestration.

It has secured two major partnership agreements: a 20-year deal with Macquarie Group to commercialize and market its low-carbon methanol and a collaboration with CapturePoint to capture and transport CO2 from the facility to deep underground CENLA Hub carbon storage sites in Central Louisiana.

With some of the world's best commercial organizations as partners and its Front-End Engineering Design study complete, Bia Energy’s Shreveport facility is set to begin commercial operations in 2026 with financial close expected later this year.

“Bia Energy’s investment has the potential to create a large number of well-paying permanent jobs and stimulate economic activity all across North Louisiana, and that would be a win for the entire state,” said Susan Bonnett-Bourgeois, Secretary of Louisiana Economic Development, in a statement.

Bia Energy's upcoming methanol production and processing facility is primed to produce 550,000 metric tons of blue and bio-methanol per year and create approximately 465 jobs in Louisiana’s Northwest region. The facility will contain state-of-the-art docks, tank farms, and piping at the port complex.

By incorporating processes to capture CO2 and use hydrogen as both fuel and feedstock, Bia Energy’s facility is designed to reduce carbon emissions by over 92% compared to traditional methanol production.

Bia Energy, LLC, is a methanol producer and supplier investing in sustainable, low-carbon energy solutions. With its Shreveport project, the developer looks to achieve net-zero emissions through its carbon-capturing process.

Dr. Ana Rodriguez, CEO and co-founder of Bia Energy, said, “The advancement of this shovel-ready project and its positive environmental impact, coupled with the jobs creation and development at the Port and in Caddo and Bossier Parishes, underscores our commitment to the region and our ability to deliver low carbon solutions to our prospective customers across a wide range of industries.”
