Summer rerun series. Season 1 Episode 21. In this episode that originally aired on January 18, 2023 host Michael Ryan interviews Terry Mantell, grandson of Captain Thomas F. Mantell who is the first Air Force pilot to lose their life in pursuit of a UFO. Terry Mantell talks about how his grandfather's death affected their family and how they are still looking for answers from the government 75 years later. Also discussed is an interview with Sgt. Blackwell, who was in the control tower at Godman Army Air Field the day of the crash. Sgt. Blackwell's 1996 interview sheds new light on what really happened that day. Terry Mantell has a Facebook group that you can see here. To read 93 pages of government documents that were found thru a FOIA request go to John Greenwald's The Black Vault page here. You can also check out the Simpson County Historical Society here which has lots of information on the Mantell Encounter and an actual piece of Captain Mantell's airplane.
