Ladies and gentlemen, I’m so excited to release the second episode of the show! On this episode, we talked about text painting. What is that? Simply put, it’s the portrayal of text in music. We checked out how Schubert and Bach use this technique, and how Wagner takes it even further with the Leitmotif. For the list of Leitmotifs in Tristan und Isolde that I promised to link to in this post, click here.
We went over some of Schubert’s song cycle, Schwanengesang, and if you want to hear a recording of an amazing pair of musicians, check out the Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau/Gerald Moore recording here.
If you want to take a look at the scores to Schwanengesang, Bach’s Cantata, BWV 49, and/or Tristan und Isolde, check out IMSLP to get them for free…they’re public domain!
I hope that you enjoy listening, and that you get a lot out of it! Please make sure to subscribe using the button above, or via the iTunes Store (free), and don’t hesitate to send an email to mail@uncoveringmusic.com if you have any questions or comments!
I wish you all the best, and look forward to sharing the next episode of Uncovering Music with you!
