Every culture has at least one creation story — an attempt to understand the world we find ourselves in. Scientists are presently constructing a comprehensive model to satisfy that same need for understanding. But science is notorious for producing more new questions for every satisfying answer. And some of the answers that we come up with leave us vaguely unsatisfied, stretching our minds beyond the ability to comprehend. Where have we come in this quest? At least one question has proven easy to answer: Was there a beginning? YES. But that answer, and the way in which we have learned it, leads us to spooky and uncomfortable notions about the shape of our universe.
