Celesta Herrmann was born on 18th July 1901 in Cincinnati to a German-American family where over eating was normal. Six times a day, the family would sit down together to enjoy extra large portions of their favourite food, this of course lead to the beginnings of a weight issue.

She would get bullied in school, and her parents' way of soothing her hurt feelings was to provide her with more home-cooked food. By age 12 she weighed just over 150 lbs (68 kg) and by 18 she weighed over 300 lbs (136 kg), A little after a year and she rocked the scales at a staggering 400 lbs (181 kg).

In 1950 she survived a heart attack which inspired her to published an autobiography called "Diet or Die; The Dolly Dimples Weight Reducing Plan”. Following her strict 800 calorie per day diet helped her lose over a third of her total weight and she was recognised as an official Guinness World Record holder for "the fastest weight loss ever by a woman”. She died in 1982 aged 81.
