The reason why Covid's impact on tourism is different from any other pandemic is a man-made one. In fact, it's a government one. All over the world, lockdown announcements and border restrictions at sometimes short notice has complicated the recovery of travel and events.
David Beirman has studied tourism risk, crisis and recovery for more than 40 years and has dissected the issues surrounding travel and Covid-19. A senior lecturer at University Technology Sydney, David has taken history's perspective to understand the impact of the pandemic and look for opportunities to pivot through case studies.
Quotes From Episode
"You can never assume that the crisis you're about to face is the same as the one that you just came through. So the rules are going to change (and) we need to be prepared as best as we possibly can."

"Because it's global and because resolving the problems from the crisis depends so heavily on government regulations, the recovery is going to be slower than if it was just market driven."
-David Beirman
