Gamescape is an indie games showcase in Baltimore, Maryland every July. Philosoplay game designer Anthony Powell details the multiplayer balance in That Rock Paper Scissors Game. In the game, players control one of the three classic objects: rock, paper, or scissors. If you're rock, you have to avoid paper and try to catch scissors. How does That Rock Paper Scissors Game keep competition even? And how does it keep competition varied? For more information, check out Philosoplay's Facebook page. Next is a discussion of Molecular Jig's Immune Defense, which puts players in control of your immune system--turning molecular biology into a real time strategy game. Here, developer Melanie Stegman covers the transition from specific, complicated biochemical functions to an entertaining, playable game. For more information, check out Molecular Jig's web site. You can find Stegman's approach to game design here. In particular, during the interview, she references this talk by George Fan, director of Plants vs. Zombies.
