Anyone that says prayer doesn't work is stupid. They have no wisdom and you shouldn't waste your time to even listen to them. Whenever you have a problem, pray and pray alot to Jesus. Trust me that He listens and He would listen to you even if you are a sinner. It may last long to reply sometimes but what you don't know behind the scenes is that it is working. Pray.
