Today is RelatABLE Thursday! If you heard the announcement at the beginning of the episode click below to book your call!https://calendly.com/brianalmeida/discoverablecallOn this episode I discuss the vulnerability of social media. My experience has had high highs and low lows, eventually leading to me walking away from it. What I've realized is that we have to be careful how we use it.Towards the end of 2017 I started becoming more active on social media, and at first it was exciting, and brought me joy. It was a new world, and as I shared my story I felt like I was really impacting and helping people. I was building new relationships, and some of those people are now great friends of mine. The problem was that I started to let it take over my life, in more ways than one. As I started taking online connections offline by attending networking events, it meant a lot of evenings out of the house and late nights. This didn’t go over well in my marriage, and to be honest I should have known better. That wasn’t the only issue, there was also the fact that I was starting to put out content to get metrics, rather than share important messages. Eventually I walked away from social media completely, to repair my marriage and my life overall. The next problem was that I began using social media like most of us do, as a distraction. I had never used Instagram up until a couple of years ago, and when I started to I mainly followed meme pages and watched funny videos. It wasn’t long before I noticed I was wasting time and needed to make a shift in who I was following. At this point I’ve got to a place where I feel better about not only how I use it but what I put out. I’m more aligned in my messaging and feel like I’m getting back to where it all began. If we’re all not careful it won’t be us using social media, it will be social media using us!For more information on your host Brian Almeida:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brian-almeida/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thebealmeida/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/brian.almeida.731
