The capital city Pretoria has the worst traffic in the country during peak hours, this is according to the latest data from the TomTom Traffic Index which ranks traffic congestion of multiple cities across the world.

According to the index, rush hour traffic numbers are on the increase, however, are still well below 2019 numbers.

Pretoria came in first with commuters there spending the equivalent of 6 days per year in traffic, that number is 5 days a year for Cape Town which came in second. Surprisingly, the country’s economic hub Johannesburg has improved and is now number 5 in terms of peak hour traffic congestion in the country, with East London and Bloemfontein both registering worse peak hour traffic than Johannesburg.

The index puts the UK, India, Ireland, Japan, and Italy as the worst places in the world to drive during rush hour peak traffic. For more on this, the team caught up with our very own Rob Byrne.
