“After what they did to me, there is no way I can ever forgive them.”
I understand. I have been hurt before and like you, I refused to forgive. I held on to the anger and bitterness until it felt like a bottomless pit in my chest. More recently, as I came to trust God with my life, He has taught me how to forgive and treat everyone with kindness and love.
The truth is that God can equip you with strength beyond your strength to do the compassionate thing and forgive even in a society that glorifies vengeance and retribution. Forgiving doesn’t mean forgetting - but it does mean freeing yourself from the bondage caused by anger and resentment.
