I’m inspired by Marie Forleo’s fantastic new book, Everything is Figureoutable, and I listened to a great podcast episode featuring Marie and her best friend Kris Carr last week when the book came out. It got me thinking about how we can figure things out and adopt a healthy approach to life and business that sets us up for success. On today’s show, we discuss the difference between a fixed mindset and growth mindset and why it matters, as well as what it takes to challenge ourselves to figure anything out, including: asking for help, acknowledging our privilege, and observing our limiting beliefs.

Key Takeaways

[6:29] Figuring something out doesn’t always mean we have to do it ourselves. It’s okay, and even strong, to lean on others.

[8:19] A fixed mindset is one where we think there is no changing or growing possible, and things are stuck the way they are. A growth mindset allows for trying new things out, challenging ourselves and learning through growth. We trust ourselves to figure it out, no matter how many bumps in the road along the process.

[10:09] The more you do something, the more confidence in it you build. Instead of waiting for the inspiration or the confidence to do something, it’s the action and growth that builds those feelings.

[12:31] Help can come in many forms. We can hire or invest in a coach or mentor, we can ask our friends or community, or we can delegate to someone else who it may come naturally to.

[13:44] We don’t ask for help because we think it’s weak or are fearful that we will get rejected. However, asking for help is incredibly empowering, and we give someone the chance to do something they love, to help another human.

[21:03] As we figure things out and work from a state of the growth mindset, we can acknowledge the level of privilege we do or don’t have in our personal reality.

[26:29] Our beliefs shape our reality, and have everything to do with how we see the world. Beliefs can also be changed over time and they aren’t a one-way sentence for life.
