In this episode, I sit down with WMS English teacher John Horton and discuss the process by which the 8th-grade English team develops their semester-long, student-driven inquiry project. The team supports learners as each individual student begins by developing an authentic question that they then research and discuss until it evolves into a focused topic that can be researched in further detail - and so on – until it culminates with all students sharing their final product during an evening showcase event that is open to parents and the community. The choices afforded students, and in particular, the steps the team takes in supporting those choices and the entire inquiry process, make this a podcast that is well worth the listen for those interested in personalized practices in the classroom.
