Relationships – September 17, 2017

Romans 12:1-2 NLT

[1] And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice-the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. [2] Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Ephesians 4:1-6 NLT

[1] Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. [2] Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. [3] Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. [4] For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. [5] There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all.

SERMON

This is part 2 of a two part series. The first looks at continual learning as a life style and relationships as a key part in it. Every morning we should begin with an eager expectation and prayer for new learning starting with a willingness to admit we do not know it all -in fact, we have hardly touched the surface. Sometimes this new learning reveals a necessity to change our attitude —humility, gentleness, patience— concerning our relationships. The difficulty in this is that it often touches sensitive areas where pain lives and emotions thrive.

All new learning involves change, the throwing away of rags and embracing truth. God’s transforming of us into a new person involves a change in the way we think and is a process, sometimes painful, sometimes difficult, but always necessary. It is painful because we must truly give our bodies to God who designed us, created us and placed us. Sinatra’s -I did it my way- so admired by the world is it’s exact opposite.

Our understanding of truth changes throughout our lives, therefore we have to be a life-learner. Allow His truth to shape your mind. A parting thought: There is only one person who is normal -God. To some degree or another, we are not. The more we become like God, the more normal we become. Listen to this weeks audio sermon for more…

Relationships

One of the great needs in the world -bears repeating-is the need for healthy relationships. There is a great amount of pain when it comes to relationships and pain keeps us from close relationships. In this case, when we get close to somebody, our pain intensifies. So there is a tendency to keep our distance from people to lessen or mitigate pain. Keep in mind this principle,

In the physical, if any part of me gets, remains detached…it dies. In the spiritual, the same: God created the body of Christ to be ONE – the ultimate UNITY.

MEDITATION

Ephesians 4:16 NLT

“He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.”

Here and there

Are you doing your special job -spiritual- here? Keep in mind Heaven is not about secular jobs, nor your house and property. Question: What is Heaven all about? Check out the audio.

Suggestion: As you read through the key scriptures in Romans 12 and Ephesians 4 think about the choices you make.

Prayer:

“This morning, I am ready to learn the truth you have for me today. I need fresh truth -continually- so I can be transformed in some area of my life. Help me to think like you so I can act like you.”
