De Profundis is Latin for "from the depths." It's also the title of a letter.
Oscar Wilde, the infamous Irish playwright and poet, wrote this letter over the course of the two years he spent in prison for "public indecency".
He wrote it to Lord Alfred "Bosie" Douglas, who was a "friend" of Oscar's (wink wink).
We cover the first portion of the letter today, which is what I refer to as, "The Drama." This is where we lay down all of the background information and read through some of the outrageous stories that Oscar found himself in as a part of his "fatal friendship" with Bosie.
For part two, we will dive deeper into the letter and analyze Oscar's philosophical and spiritual musings. And remember: "The supreme vice is shallowness. Whatever is realized is right."
