There seems to be a new spirit of the times, reaching from the U.S. to China and Japan, and possibly elsewhere.
In China, it is known as "lying flat," in Japan, "Hikikomori," and in the United States, quiet quitting, loud quitting, the great resignation, and even goblin mode are all candidates do describe the behavior identified in an increasing number of young adults. Gen Z may even have their own trend in keeping with the spirit of the times that is still undefined.
