River Donaghey grew up in a cult. Or at least that’s what some people called it. His parents called it a “personal-growth seminar group.” Its leader called it “one big happy family.” But there was a dark side to the world River grew up in. One he never heard about as a kid. In the 1970s and 80s, a self-help company called Lifespring took America by storm. Hundreds of thousands of people walked out of Lifespring as true believers, convinced that the seminars had the power to change the world. ...

We posted a couple days ago on social media about how both Jon and I are a bit under the weather right now, so we’ve got to delay this weeks scheduled episode covering Melissa Brannen’s Case until next Tuesday, March 28th, 2023. But today, we’re re-releasing an episode that is near and dear to our hearts. It’s a case we covered over a year ago, back when our format for this podcast was very different than it is today.
This is a story that’s continued to stick with us, in part due to our interview with Gerri, Theresa Corley’s sister, which provided us so much insight into not only Theresa’s case, but all the work Gerri continues to put in, trying to get justice for her sister nearly 45 years later. If you could please do us a huge favor and share this episode on your socials, that would be amazing. We want Theresa’s story to reach as many ears as possible. And please take a minute to follow the Facebook page that Gerri runs, which is dedicated to Theresa’s case; it’s called Justice for Theresa Corley Bellingham MA 1978. Gerri posts on there pretty regularly with updates.
In this episode, we will be covering the 1978 murder of Theresa Corley. While researching, we had the amazing opportunity to speak with Gerri, Theresa's sister, at length regarding her case. Theresa was 19 years old when she was found strangled to death along a Massachussetts highway. As we worked our way through the case, we learned of those most likely responsible, but also became aware of deep ties throughout the small town of Bellingham, that link many of the suspects together. As important as all of the cases we cover are, this one has become particularly meaningful to us, and we hope you take the time to listen.
