Welcome Witches to Witchcraft from A to Z, your go-to witchy podcast for finding the magic hidden among the mundane! My name is Elaine Evergreen, a practicing witch of over 15 years now and I'll be your host this week.

Dried, powdered, fresh, candied, preserved, and pickled, this easy to find root is found in the spice cabinets and cuisines of families all around the world. Historically, ginger has been recommended for many reasons involving health and spiritual practices. It was recommended as a digestive after meals by both Confucius and the ancient Greeks. The Buddhist monk Faxian wrote about its use in staving off scurvy and the ancient Austronesians, used ginger to bless their ships. The Austronesians also used this prized root in healing rituals rituals which asked for protection from spirits. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, you can find ginger used to represent and heal the whole body due to the shape of the rhizome when harvested, which often looks like it has a head, arms, and legs.
