Au cours des dernières années, la popularité du contenu true crime a significativement augmenté. On doit cette hausse en popularité du genre en grande partie à la sortie de ses divers documentaires, couvrant la vie de meurtriers ayant commis des crimes sordides. Le contenu semble devenir de plus en plus troublant, à tel point qu’on en vient à se demander pourquoi est-ce qu’il nous attire autant? Comment justifier cette curiosité morbide? Dans cet épisode nos deux animatrices explorent l’historique du genre true crime, et tentent de comprendre la raison pour laquelle l’audience du true crime ne cesse d’augmenter. Est-ce sain d’en consommer autant? Et serait-ce possible que nous perpétuons différents systèmes d’oppressions en consommant aussi avidement ce contenu?

Over the past few years, the popularity of true crime content has grown significantly. We owe this rise in popularity of the genre in large part to the release of its various documentaries, covering the lives of murderers who have committed sordid crimes. The content seems to be getting more and more disturbing, so much so that one comes to wonder why does it appeal to us so much? How can this morbid curiosity be justified? In this episode, our two hosts explore the history of the true crime genre, and try to understand why the audience for true crime continues to grow. Is it healthy to consume so much? And could we be perpetuating different systems of oppression by consuming this content so greedily?
