Generations is a podcast about people. In the first episode, we talk to Steve Chalmers about life on and off the dance floor.

Steve Chalmers was born in Chicago, Ill., the son of Greek-American immigrants. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1959. In June of 1948, he joined the Chicago Show Display Company and went on to become a successful sales executive and senior board member of the firm until his retirement in 1995.

In 1952, in the middle of his career, Steve joined the U.S. Coast Guard and had assignments in Alameda, Calif., Boston, and Cape Cod, Mass. There, he served as the personal administrative assistant to the commander of the U.S. Coast Guard. On his leave, he participated in tennis competitions representing the Coast Guard.

He continues to focus on numerous cultural and philanthropic activities in his retirement. He is a member of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and a major supporter of Northwest University and University of Missouri, St. Louis.

In addition to golf and tennis, Steve also competes in National Ballroom Dance Competitions.
