Join us as Sharon explains her mantra, “No Problem,” and describes the process she followed to create an organization that breaks the cycle of inter-generational incarceration. About Sharon Content: Sharon is the Founder and President of Children of Promise, NYC, with a mission to embrace the children of incarcerated parents and to empower them to break the cycle of inter-generational involvement in the criminal justice system. Prior to founding Children of Promise, she worked for over twelve years within the non-profit sector for various organizations focused on addressing the needs of youth residing in high crime, low income communities. Sponsors: The Universal Flag is a symbol that transcends borders, economics, race, and religion to acknowledge the interconnection of all life. Come join this diverse community from around the world. Personal Mantra: No problem. (There really aren’t any problems. There are challenges, and we just need to find a way to solve it.) When she knows the work she is doing is making a difference: When she sees the young people she works with realize there even though their lives are difficult now, that there are options and there are different ways to solve various problems. They do have talents and skills that they can offer the world. One family has been with them for six years. The grandmother is now raising the three grandchildren. Youngest baby was born in prison. When mom was coming home, grandmother is so excited to have her coming home. Children of Promise has helped this family extensively and helped keep them together. Now that mom is coming home, it becomes even more apparent how much their work has helped this family. Practical Advice: Respect the process that it takes to get to your goal. It may be challenging, and take so much time and effort, but that is just a part of the reward. Personal life practices: She loves what she does so much that her work doesn't feel like work, and that keeps her going. Nomination for Upcoming World Changer Sessions Guest: Michelle Obama How to get in touch with Sharon: Website: www.cpnyc.org Email: scontent@cpnyc.org Phone: 718-483-9290 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/childrenofpromisenyc
