Synopsis

One year later, Rip and Hkhkheee discuss Extinction’s contract in Rip’s office at Epic Triassic Records. Rip offers a lowball figure for the band as compensation for their #1 hit album. Hkhkheee stomps out in a huff. (Hkhkheee was rebuffed in her petition for more money.)

Hkhkheee and her band mates have a band meeting to discuss Epic Triassic’s lowball offer. The bass player demands that Extinction walk out on Epic Triassic, and start their own label. Hkhkheee gets emotional support from her band.

Ccchhhupp, the leader of the resistance cell (GM) meets with Rip, assigning the cell a mission. He also warns Rip that there’s a mole within his cell, and Rip immediately suspects Hkhkheee. Rip agrees to the mission, and to purge the cell of the mole.

Chompscilla approaches Rip in his office, wanting to be part of a field mission against a Church lab. Rip assigns her to find the mole, and shuts down her demands for the lab mission. Chompscilla agrees to find the mole, instead of assaulting the lab. She is incredulous about Rip’s suspicions of Hkhkheee. She didn’t get the mission she wanted, but she did get a mission, and that was what she really wanted.

Gomer meets with Chompscilla at Chompscilla’s house. He behaves domestically, and is revealed to have been a regular visitor ever since she rescued him from the shelter. Gomer is pleased with the progress of the muffin business, but Chompscilla postulates selling out. Gomer vents at Chompscilla about Rip, and reveals that their friendship has cooled. He gets her to agree to keep an eye out for Rip’s duplicity. Chompscilla queries Gomer about his domestic inclinations toward Chompscilla, and Gomer suggests that if Chompscilla were to expand her muffin business, he might be around more, and more affectionate. Gomer leaves without Chompscilla agreeing to expand, and with Chompscilla seeing the possibility of further affection; either way, the token goes to Eugene.

Rip calls Hkhkheee and Extinction back to his office, offering them a huge payout of millions of dollars. The band readily agree to stay with the label, with the bass player as the driving force behind the decision.

Hkhkheee and Chompscilla get together to celebrate Extinction’s good fortune. Chompscilla squees to her friend about Gomer. Hkhkheee is less than thrilled to hear it. Hkhkheee eats one of Chompscilla’s drugged muffins, and becomes intoxicated from it. Chompscilla tries to pump her friend for information, on Rip’s behalf, but learns very little before Hkhkheee passes out. Hkhkheee collapses, unsatisfied.

In the series’ first procedural scene (GM), Gomer, Chompscilla, and Hkhkheee attempt to break into the lab that Chompscilla and Ccchhhupp had both identified as a target. Chompscilla succeeds at infiltrating the lab to admit the other two, but Gomer flubs his disguise and nearly gets caught, and Hkhkheee intentionally muffs her attempt at disarming the lab’s security system. Alarms sound, running footsteps can be heard, and the trio barely escape capture. But in the confusion, Chompscilla gets away with something that will help her later.

Rip debriefs the mission team after the mission. Chompscilla reveals that she managed to salvage something from the mission: some blurry photos that confirm that the rumours of child experiments, and of mutations, are true. Rip chews out Gomer for incompetence, and takes Hkhkheee’s failure with the security panel as evidence of treachery. Rather than be pleased with Chompscilla’s photos, Rip characterizes the mission as a failure, rebuffing Chompscilla’s moment of rescued triumph.

Gomer brings a project of his forward, looking for approval and honour from his teammates: he has made accurate replicas of the Church’s clerical masks and vestments. Rip is thrilled, as are the rest of the team, and Gomer is the hero of the moment.

Rip calls Gomer into his office to reveal that he’s proud of Gomer. He promotes Gomer, invites him to go drinking (despite his plans to go for coffee with Chompscilla)… and then reprimands him for his clumsy effort on the lab mission. Rip comes away from the exchange without further confidence in Gomer.

Hkhkheee reports in to her superior. The Melisssa is impatient with Hkhkheee’s progress in tracking down Resistance members outside the cell, and with Chompscilla still being at large, but is pleased that Hkhkheee can now tie Chompscilla to actual acts of terrorism, and Gomer as well. Hkhkheee tries to deflect the Melisssa from wanting Chompscilla and the cell arrested. The Melisssa gives Hkhkheee an ultimatum: find Rip’s superior, or liquidate the cell.
