"For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by a slave woman and one by a free woman. But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, while the son of the free woman was born through promise" (Galatians 4:22-23).

Abraham bought Hagar the bondwoman from Egypt. She was his slave whom Sarah had brought to him in an attempt to fulfill God's promise. Hagar was brought in to speed things along. But we don't need to speed God along in His plan. God does things in His own time. There is no rushing God. God is not slow.

Hagar was kicked out of the household once Isaac was born. An angel found her in the wilderness. She had placed her son in a thicket. A son loved by her. Hated by his father.

What more should a slave woman have considered would happen? She was only as necessary as she was helpful. With Isaac's birth, Hagar had become a hindrance. Ishmael had become a nuisance. So she was thrown out. So also the Law that enslaves the mind to think that you can earn salvation. Being a slave is not good. Unless you're a slave of righteousness. Amen.
