Fresh into the new school year, the Yardie Skeptics return this Sunday, September 14 at 12:30 pm EDT (11:3 0am Jamaica time) to ask the question, are we devoting too much time to "average" students? Average students go on to produce average results and then leave school and become average employees, striving, as it were, for mediocrity and never pushing the boundaries. Why invest this inordinate amount of time with the "averages" while ignoring the gifted and talented prodigies? Our special guest, general manager at FYAH 105FM, Ronald Sutherland, believes that too much time is given to average students with not enough time spent nurturing gifted students. Sutherland suggests that the environment in the Jamaican education system is "hostile to excellence" - filled with students who lack enthusiasm for learning and teachers who end up in the vocation as a last resort. And all the while, the geniuses suffer. Does Sutherland have a point, or is this a complete miscalculation of how the education system operates?
