No doubt artists like Katherine Ellis and Amanda Wilson had a stellar year working with a variety producers. While not everything hit as well for Amanda, her releases at the latter part of the year were spectacular, particularly "Keep the Fire Burning" with the Outsiders. That slice of heave produces two top notch mixes by Freemasons and the increasingly hot Wawa. I expect this will be tearing up dance radio and the clubs in the early part of 2009 here in the U.S. Katherine on the other hand could do no wrong. Every project she lent her incredible voice to was pure magic. From 7th Heaven remake of "Ain't Nothin' Goin' On But the Rent (originally a number hit for Gwen Guthrie in the late 80's), Cerrone (amazing French disco producer from the late seventies still going strong), her very own band Bimbo Jones (betcha a lot of you didn't know she's part of their team) and everything in between. God bless this woman, I worship at the diamond encrusted altar she stands on.
However, no one and I mean no one had a better year than Robyn, our little pop queen from the mid-nineties shrugged off her record label and formed her own production company Konichiwa Bitches and released a critically acclaimed self-titled album simply called Robyn. She effectively slammed radio and the club charts with six, count them 6 amazing tracks from that album with stellar remixes in a variety of genres (seven if you include Konichiwa Bitches that was released in 2007), all of which are in included in this year-edition series. Coupled with a world tour that even opened for Madonna in Europe, this girl has it going on. It's amazing what an artist can achieve when they take their career into their own hands. Robyn, you rock and here's looking forward to your future endeavors!
