Welcome back for the latest episode of Young Terps where we dive into a busy weekend for Maryland revenue sports.
The weekend began and ended with Maryland basketball competing in the Asheville Tournament, where head coach Kevin Willard's squad was humbled on Friday then Sunday for the first two losses of the season. While the Terps now fall below .500 for the first time in the Willard era, the way the Terps lost was equally as concerning as finishing with 28 turnovers through the weekend. Three-point shooting on both ends of the court was the tale in Friday night's 64-61 loss against Davidson as a late Bobby Durkin three proved to be the difference. Maryland looked to turn the tide on Sunday after building a lead as many as 11 in the first half, but turnovers loomed large as the perimeter shooting gradually went cold, leading to a 66-63 loss that the Terps had to claw back from.
Maryland will now look to get back to .500 in an early marquee matchup against Villanova next Friday night, but what was most concerning? Is patience needed or are there viable concerns?
We shift over to football where the Terps did just enough to pull out a 13-10 win against Nebraska, the program's first win against the Huskers and first win of the season since September 30. It wasn't pretty, but the win also gives the Terps bowl eligibility for the third consecutive season, marking the first time that Maryland has done so since Ralph Friedgen accomplished the feat in 2006-08. We break down the win, what stuck out, and whether it's a late-season momentum changer or simply the sixth win on the season.
