Maryland football cruised to its first victory of the 2023 season, dominating Towson in a 38-6 win inside SECU Stadium. Maryland kicked off the scoring with touchdowns on three of its first four drives and never looked back as quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa threw for over 250 yards before Billy Edwards Jr. and Cam Edge closed out the game.
But all eyes were on the offensive line, and with right tackle Gottlieb Ayedze one of several ruled out ahead of kickoff, the Terps adjusted with walk-on Conor Fagan stepping in as the fifth starter. Fagan joined DJ Glaze, Amelio Moran, Corey Bullock and Mike Purcell in the trenches, but they were far from the only ones who suited up on Saturday afternoon. How did Maryland fare in the trenches?
Defensively, Maryland finished allowing just a pair of field goals as the Terps' defense hasn't allowed a touchdown in its three consecutive games, the first time doing so since 1976. Maryland was also able to play several of its true freshmen in the win, specifically linebacker Mike Harris, safety Alex Moore and defensive linemen Dillan Fontus and Lavon Johnson. How did they look in their first game of the season?
With game one now in the books, we look ahead to what the Terps need to do against Charlotte and first-year head coach Biff Poggi heading into next weekend's matchup.
