In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. But, it wasn’t until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November.
So, this Thursday, most Americans will continue that tradition…namely of setting aside a single day in the year to be thankful. But did you know that God has a lot to say about this whole idea of thanksgiving? In fact, His thoughts regarding what thanksgiving is, and why it's important might surprise you. One thing's for sure, though…they will challenge you! Have a blessed holiday season, and perhaps one that is just a little more informed as well.
