Tom Lowndes is the mastermind DJ behind global sensation Hot Dub Time Machine.

The time travelling dance party was born in 2011 when Tom was looking to align a story and concept to his DJ act when performing at fringe festivals in Australia.

Popularity quickly grew and it wasn’t long until he was travelling the world as a stand-out festival act
His popularity quickly grew and it wasn’t long until he was travelling the world as a stand-out festival act at the likes of Coachella, Splendour in the Grass, Reading and Leeds to name but a few. Tom is ramping up the live shows again this year, igniting audiences across Australia with an action-packed, high-energy musical journey through decades and genres.

Tom’s dedication to the live Hot Dub shows is undeniable. It’s not just a case of showing up and spinning a few records, there is meticulous planning, enhancing and remixing of tracks, endless hours of video editing and unwavering commitment to embracing as many live elements as possible. The end result is, what he describes as the BEST. PARTY. EVER.

In this week’s episode, I chat to Tom about the creative process that led to Hot Dub Time Machine, what it was like playing a wheelie bin on the streets of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and the story behind his very own festival Hot Dub Wine Machine. Of course, we end the conversation as we always do, about why live music is so important.
