Manage episode 313156866 series 3260481
On this episode I chat to Casting Director Judy Bowman. Judy has been casting since 1993. Her two passions are theater and film, always with diverse casting. She recently cast season 1 of the episodic BIG DOGS. She was nominated for an Artios Award for Best Webseries Casting for "Karl Manhair: Postal Inspector". She is an Adjunct Asst. Professor in the MFA Film School at Columbia University, and was on faculty at Harlem School of the Arts for 3 years. Judy is always on the cutting-edge of finding new talent, specializing in specific language skills, ethnicities, providing opportunities for ethnically and physically diverse casts.
We talk about:
- How the industry is starting to really value and recognise what people bring to the table as who they are at the core and as an essence.
- The importance of thinking about the kind of work you want to be doing.
- What would happen if you wrote the perfect breakdown for you.
- How you don't have to completely lose your accent unless you think it is prohibiting what you want to do.
- Why diction is always important to master for non English natives.
- Why you should look to your community of International actors and have a
support system and share info and talk about different experiences you've had. - How we need to give audiences credit that they just want to
see a great performance.
