Marianne Vaatstra was a vibrant and fun-loving 16 year old girl. She spent most of her time with either her best friend, Aafie, or with her boyfriend, Spencer. She was creative, and planned to purse a career as a hair-stylist. In 1999, while out celebrating the national holiday of Queen’s Day in her hometown in Friesland, the Netherlands, when she became the victim of a crime that shocked the nation.
