Today we are joined by trauma specialist Dr. Guy MacPherson. With a doctorate in clinical psychology, Dr. McPherson runs the Trauma Therapist Project, Trauma Therapist Podcast, and Trauma Therapist 2.0 Program. His work provides resources to clinicians and therapists who want to provide trauma informed care to their clients. We’ll discuss how you can use his techniques to shift trauma in your own life.

Here is what we discussed:

  1. Guy always wanted to help others, but didn’t know exactly how. At age 26 he received a phone call that changed his life. Weeks later he found himself in the Utah desert, and then went back to school to follow his new found passion.
  2. Delivering trauma informed care is personal for Guy. His own brother, a Navy Seal, experienced PTSD. Watching his brother go through such a difficult experience further encouraged him to learn about trauma and how to heal from it.
  3. Healing trauma begins with acknowledging it, but the process looks different for everyone. Finding a support system and the right therapist are key components to healing.
  4. Since trauma resides in the body, talk therapy alone may not be enough. Getting to know one’s body and learning to self-regulate is crucial to healing.

Wishing you the best of health & thanks for listening!
