In a fascinating and informative interview, Nancy Mintie, the Executive Director of Uncommon Good - a Claremont-based organization focused on "Empowering families through education, medicine, and the environment", recounts her selfless and generous, lifelong path of service to, and advocacy for those in our society who often need help the most and yet have the least access to it.
Immediately after graduating from UCLA's Law School in 1979, Nancy moved to the Catholic Worker soup kitchen and set up her first law practice inside a rusty construction trailer there. She began offering free legal services to the neighborhood. Ever since, Nancy has provided free legal representation and assistance, defended civil rights while creating jobs and making available nutritious, local-grown produce therough her innovative farming program.
Her stories of success using creative and effective measures to help others help themselves and improve their quality of life are inspiring, refreshing and motivating. Nancy Mintie shows that clever solutions to problems combined with tenacious effort, effecting change for the better really does work.
